The Aerospace Engineer serves as a Continued Operational Safety (COS) Program Manager in the Compliance & Airworthiness Division. He/she applies expertise of engineering knowledge, extensive certification, COS experience and leadership skills to develop, integrate, implement, and evaluate processes for all activities associated with complex COS issues.Applies experience and comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles, theories, and concepts applicable to the Continued Operational Safety (COS) Programs, as well as an understanding of new technologies and methodologies, to solve complex problems and to develop improved technical processes for the organization. Assignments frequently require knowledge and experience working across functional and/or organizational lines. Typical assignment includes responsibility for overseeing and/or accomplishing COS work activities and project/program management as follows: Managing Continuing Airworthiness Program: Applies broad technical, organizational, data management and team leadership skills to lead COS oversight of assigned domestic make/model products, military projects such as the cockpit door for transport category airplane and from identification of potential safety issues through closure; Support management in ensuring the Compliance and Airworthiness Division, AIR-700, meet the COS program and processrequirements and metrics; Identifies gaps in program metrics and processes, and recommends program improvements to address those gaps; Leads and/or participates on teams to conduct organizational improvement, implement new processes, procedures, conduct audits, maintenance of confidence, or other activity to achieve organizational performance objectives related to COS activity; Leads or steers major team activities associated with major COS related agreements with design approval holders or foreign authorities; and serves as focal point for development and maintenance of those agreements; Advises management on implementation of COS processes within and across branches, staffingrequirements to implement COS related programs and teams; Monitors and provides briefings to the workforce to ensure adherence to established COS procedures and working agreements; Oversees workforce compliance to COS processes and continually looks for opportunities to improve these processes; Advises engineering workforce on the application of risk and causal analyses; Responsible for overseeing assigned engineering workforce and design approval holders or foreign authorities in their duties to acquire and review operational data for potential safety issues; Develop, implement and continuously improve COS databases used for tracking and monitoring status of open COS and safety items; Coordinates safety issues with other COS Program Managers for potential impact on other products.
