The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the consultant for engineering issues related to aircraft arresting systems planning/design/construction/life-cycle management of equipment and infrastructure criteria that addresses safe standards for aircraft arrestment and engagement.Performs professional mechanical engineering work involved in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes in support of major mechanical systems and support programs for Aircraft Arresting Systems. Serves as senior expert responsible for broad program operations in research, development, test and evaluation for Aircraft Arresting Systems. Makes critical decisions on safety of aircraft engagements and provides advice on extremely complex system problems and gives professional guidance on technical policies and procedures. Develops and recommends/proposes implementing policies, criteria, procedures, and standards using detailed knowledge of the history, theory, design and function along with an intimate knowledge of the aircraft arresting system components and their inter-relationship essential to analyze malfunction if identified from the field and to direct remedial action to field personnel.
