DBA & Bulk Data Management Engineer
WebbingDescription
About the Role
We are building a multi-site platform that orchestrates telecoms services for mobile operators across different regions, with additional network nodes in other regions. As our DBA & Bulk Data Management Engineer you will own every database that underpins this platform from the core BSS/OSS/NOC modules through to the PostgreSQL stores that sit behind our different applications.
You will also extend your ownership into the network control layer, maintaining interfaces to vendor-managed databases inside HSS, OCS, PCRF, and SMSC nodes, and ensuring the mediation pipelines that bring network data into the other required system are reliable, complete, and governed by clear data-handling policies.
This role spans three disciplines: hands-on database engineering (installation, tuning, backup/restore, high availability), bulk data management (large-scale loads, migrations, exports, purges), and data governance (designing and enforcing retention, archival, and compliance policies). You will be a senior individual contributor and the go-to expert for all database topics across the entire BSS and NOC stack.
What You Will Build
- End-to-end backup, restoration, and disaster-recovery framework for all BSS and network-layer PostgreSQL clusters.
- Performance optimization roadmap covering index strategies, query tuning, table partitioning, and vacuuming schedules for high-throughput subscription and charging data.
- Bulk data pipelines for large-scale imports, exports, migrations, and timed purges of subscriber CDRs and event records.
- Data handling, retention, and archival policies aligned with GDPR, operator SLAs, and internal compliance requirements.
- Database monitoring dashboards (Prometheus + Grafana exporters) with alerting for replication lag, lock contention, query performance, and disk saturation.
- Installation and upgrade playbooks for new PostgreSQL instances as the platform scales into additional markets or modules.
- Cross-platform data integration layer between BSS mediation and network-element databases (HSS, OCS, PCRF, SMSC, PGW).
- Schema review and data-architecture advisory process for BSS and Workflow engineering teams.
- Data access control framework: roles, privileges, row-level security, and audit logging across all database tiers.
- Runbooks and knowledge base covering all database operational procedures, DR playbooks, and incident response steps.
Requirements
Must Have
- Strong hands-on PostgreSQL administration: installation, configuration, replication (logical/streaming), upgrade, and vacuum tuning
- Proven backup and restore experience: pg_dump, pg_basebackup, WAL archiving, point-in-time recovery, and DR testing
- Query performance analysis: EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, index design (B-Tree, partial, composite), and schema-level optimisation
- Bulk data operation

Why Do AI-Generated Algorithmic Interfaces Feel Wrong?
AI-optimized interfaces may be mathematically efficient, but they often violate the psychological principles humans expect. I examine why algorithmic design creates friction, even when the data suggests it shouldn't.

Why AI Design Tools Are Quietly Replacing Junior Designers and What Actually Comes Next
AI tools promise efficiency, but London studios are discovering an unexpected paradox: automation creates new bottlenecks requiring precisely the expertise being eliminated. We investigate what's actually happening to entry-level design work.

How Passive Data Collection is Reshaping UX Research
As users grow weary of surveys and interviews, researchers are turning to ambient behavioural signals from keystroke dynamics to micro-interactions to understand product experience without asking a single question.
