Geopolitical Economist / Senior Associate / Director
eFinancialCareersLocation: London or New York
Octavius Finance is partnering with a leading global geopolitical advisory firm to appoint a Geopolitical Economist to join its growing international team.
With established offices in London and New York, the firm advises senior executives, boards, investors and policymakers on the geopolitical, economic and policy developments shaping global business. As a truly international organisation, the role can be based in either London or New York, working closely with colleagues and clients across both offices.
The firm is seeking a geopolitical economist who can analyse the intersection of geopolitics and the global economy, helping clients understand how political developments, policy decisions and macroeconomic trends influence markets, industries and corporate strategy. Rather than operating as a traditional forecasting economist, you will integrate economic analysis into broader geopolitical assessments, providing clients with practical, commercially relevant advice.
This is a balanced role, combining client advisory (approximately 50%) with research, thought leadership and content development (approximately 50%). Alongside leading client engagements, you will contribute to the firm's intellectual agenda by identifying emerging geopolitical and macroeconomic themes, producing high-quality research, and supporting business development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise multinational corporates, financial institutions, investors and professional services firms on the geopolitical and macroeconomic developments affecting their businesses.
- Analyse the interaction between geopolitics, public policy and the global economy, translating complex developments into actionable commercial insights.
- Lead and contribute to client engagements, delivering tailored advice to senior executives and leadership teams.
- Produce high-quality written research, including client reports, briefing papers, scenario analyses and thought leadership.
- Identify emerging geopolitical, economic and policy themes for client briefings, events and multi-client research.
- Collaborate with colleagues across regional and sector teams to integrate economic analysis into broader geopolitical advisory work.
- Present insights directly to C-suite executives, boards and investment committees.
- Support business development by contributing to proposals, client pitches and strategic initiatives.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate is likely to have:
- Approximately 6–12 years of relevant experience.
- At least some experience working for a consultancy.
- A strong understanding of global macroeconomics, international political economy and the relationship between geopolitics, economic policy and financial markets.
- Experience advising clients or senior stakeholders on geopolitical and economic risks.
- The ability to synthesise political, economic and market developments into clear, commercially relevant recommendations.
- Excellent research, writing and presentation skills, with experience communicating complex issues to senior audiences.
- A commercial mindset, with an interest in client development, thought leadership and growing long-term client relationships.
Experience advising clients across sectors such as financial services, technology and AI, energy, defence, industrials, consumer goods, manufacturing, life sciences, logistics, real estate or infrastructure would be advantageous.
Regional expertise across the US, Europe, China, the Middle East, North Africa, Latin America or Asia-Pacific is welcomed, although the firm values candidates with a broad international perspective rather than expertise in a single geography.
Why Join?
- Join a highly respected global geopolitical advisory firm with offices in London and New York.
- Advise senior decision-makers on the geopolitical and economic forces shaping global markets and business strategy.
- Work at the intersection of geopolitics, economics and public policy on complex international issues.
- Enjoy a varied role combining client advisory, research and thought leadership.
- Collaborate with a highly intellectual, international team in a fast-growing business.
- Benefit from excellent long-term career progression and the flexibility to be based in either London or New York.
If you're looking to apply macroeconomic expertise within a geopolitical advisory environment and help clients navigate an increasingly complex global landscape, we'd be delighted to discuss this opportunity with you in confidence.
