Lifting Equipment Engineer
BPATHE BUSINESS
Bramley Engineering (Lifting Gear) Ltd is a family-owned lifting and handling equipment business with over 40 years of continuous trading and a loyal, growing customer base. We carry out inspection, testing, adjustment, and maintenance of lifting equipment at our Leighton Buzzard workshop and directly on customer sites. We are a small, professional team where standards matter and reliability is everything.
THE ROLE
We are looking for a qualified, experienced Lifting Equipment Engineer to join the team. You will carry out thorough examinations and testing of a wide range of lifting and handling equipment — overhead cranes, hoists, slings, shackles, lifting beams, and associated gear — in both workshop and site environments.
This is a customer-facing role. You will deal directly with clients on site, complete detailed inspection reports to the required standard, and manage your own time across multiple locations. We need someone who is methodical, self-motivated, and comfortable representing the business professionally at all times.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carry out thorough examinations, inspection, and testing of lifting and handling equipment in accordance with LOLER 1998 and relevant British Standards.
- Perform adjustment, repair, and maintenance of lifting equipment at our workshop and on customer sites.
- Complete accurate, detailed inspection reports and certification documentation to the required standard.
- Liaise directly with customers on site — explaining findings, agreeing remedial actions, and maintaining professional relationships.
- Plan and manage your own schedule to meet customer commitments across London and the South East.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure all documentation is submitted promptly.
- Identify defects, non-conformances, and unsafe equipment and advise customers accordingly.
- Support the workshop team with maintenance and refurbishment work as required.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- LEEA Category 1 (Lifting Equipment Examiner) qualification — essential.
- LEEA Category 2 qualification — desirable.
- Demonstrable experience in the inspection, testing, and examination of lifting and handling equipment.
- Working knowledge of LOLER 1998 and relevant lifting equipment standards.
- Strong written skills — your inspection reports and certification documents are legal records.
- Confident, professional manner in customer-facing situations.
- Excellent time management and self-organisation — you will be managing your own diary across multiple sites.
- Full, clean UK driving licence — essential.
- Happy to travel regularly across London and the South East, with occasional wider travel.
WHAT WE OFFER
Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. A stable, established business with a strong customer base, a genuine work/life balance ethos, and a small team where your contribution is visible and valued. Full support and ongoing professional development.
