Staff Engineer (m|w|d)

As a Staff Engineer, you'll shape the technical foundation behind identity management, subscriptions, messaging and customer data, helping build a platform that supports personalized user experiences at scale.
This role combines backend engineering, data engineering and architectural leadership. You'll influence how data flows across systems, how services communicate through event-driven architectures, and how technical decisions support idealo's long-term CRM strategy. Working closely with Software Engineers, Data Engineers and Product Managers, you'll help define technical direction across multiple domains.
You'll work with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka and AWS services including Redshift, Glue and S3 in a modern cloud-native architecture. From data ingestion and transformation to customer-facing activation, you'll help build reliable systems that teams across idealo depend on every day. When new CRM capabilities go live, you'll see the direct impact of your work in millions of customer interactions.

About your new role
Define and evolve the technical architecture for CRM Tech, ensuring scalable, reliable and maintainable systems that support idealo's long-term business goals.
Stay hands-on by designing and developing cloud-native microservices, event-driven applications and backend services with a strong focus on performance, security and operational excellence.
Shape the evolution of our data platform by improving data architecture, ETL processes, data warehousing, event flows and integrations across multiple systems and domains.
Lead technical initiatives within the team and across the wider product area, working closely with Product Managers and engineering teams to align technical solutions with business needs.
Drive continuous improvements across software development, CI/CD pipelines, observability, monitoring and engineering practices while evaluating new technologies where they add measurable value.
Mentor engineers through technical guidance, architecture discussions and code reviews, fostering a collaborative engineering culture focused on sustainable technical excellence.
Skills & Requirements
You bring extensive experience building cloud-native software systems on AWS and designing distributed, event-driven architectures using Java 17+, Spring Boot, Kafka and modern backend technologies.
