About the Position: As Chief of the River and Hydrologic Engineering Section you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and advising on hydrologic and river hydraulic projects. Many projects are very complex; requiring sophisticated statistical modeling procedures. Results affect the planning, development and/or operation of projects including major multi-million dollar multi-purpose projects, providing flood control, hydro-power, recreation and navigation

Serve as the District's principal expert for hydrologic and river engineering, responsible for defining, clarifying, and setting technical criteria for complex projects.Manage all assigned functions and studies in the areas of hydrology and river hydraulics for both the Portland District and external customers.Supervise the Flood Plain Management Services Program and the Silver Jackets Program.Plan, schedule, direct, and coordinate all technical activities, projects, and workflow for the River and Hydrologic Engineering Section.Perform comprehensive personnel administration, including assigning work, setting performance standards, preparing formal evaluations, and implementing disciplinary actions.Provide expert guidance and information to subordinates to resolve the most complex technical problems where established criteria may not be applicable.Formulate and determine the section's official technical approach, including methods for calculations, field studies, data analysis, and advanced modeling.Coordinate with other branches, divisions, and technical elements to resolve major controversies and integrate the section's work with other engineering disciplines.Conduct long-range planning for future workload adjustments, emergencyrequirements, and organizational improvements to optimize efficiency.Promote and administer a variety of management programs within the section, including safety, EEO, cost reduction, and employee incentive awards.
