Supervisory Healthcare Engineer

The Supervisory Healthcare Engineer position serves as the Assistant Chief of Facilities Management Services (FMS) at the VA Portland Health Care System (VAPORHCS) Portland, Oregon. The Supervisory Healthcare Engineer or Assistant Chief position serves as a supervisor within FMS. The VAPORHCS is a tertiary hospital with two divisions (Portland and Vancouver) and is one of the busiest and most complex health care systems in the nation.FUNCTIONS OR SCOPE OF ASSIGNED DUTIES BUT NOT LIMITED TO: The incumbent is a key engineering advisor reporting directly to the Chief of FMS. The incumbent is a responsible leader and a member of the FMS management team and is relied on for authoritative advice on all aspects of design and construction matters. This position provides matrix management support and technical expert consultation to the Chief of FMS for all issues relative to the areas listed above. The incumbent makes recommendations to the Chief of FMS for final approval and has responsibility and accountability for all aspects of the medical center design and construction program and oversight. The incumbent collaborates with operations and program managers to ensure integrated goals and priorities for all projects are met. The incumbent works closely with peers in other service lines to meet their project needs as internal customers and the needs of external customers. Engineering Project Management and Administration: This position provides professional and technical guidance and direction and review of assigned programs including professional engineering work in several disciplines such as architecture, civil engineering, energy engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, environmental engineering, fire safety and safety engineering. Additionally, works closely with biomedical engineering and the National Acquisition Center (NAC) in the coordination of complex equipment installations. The incumbent performs the duties of facility liaison to U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) on Major Project 648-077 Seismic Retrofit and Renovation - Buildings 100 and 101 which is estimated to be $1 billion. This project proposes seismic retrofits on the VAPORHCS' two main campus buildings (building 100 and building 101). Building 100 is 680,392 gross square feet (GSF) and building 101 is 129,692 GSF. The incumbent will also provide project management on the $100 million activation activities that will occur due to this massive project.
