The Grassroots Manager plans and executes a comprehensive grassroots advocacy program across an assigned geography. This includes attracting volunteers and developing, maintaining, and implementing a volunteer leadership program. The position is responsible for developing and implementing grassroots strategies and campaign plans for local, state, and federal legislative priorities, and facilitating the achievement of ACS CAN volunteer fundraising goals primarily through supporting volunteers in their fundraising. The position embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion in every aspect of the role, particularly through volunteer attraction, development, and engagement. The position models the organization's values and cultural beliefs and complies with all relevant lobbying protocols for each state and executes all assigned administrative duties.The Grassroots Manager, New York City role centers health equity across all aspects of advocacy, organizing, and partnership development by engaging, cultivating, and supporting a diverse portfolio of grassroots partnerships, and community-based organizations aligned around shared goals: accelerating cancer cures, improving equitable access to care, and reducing the burden of tobacco in New York. Work to elevate community voices—particularly those historically underserved or disproportionately impacted by cancer in New York City—to help shape policy, systems, and environmental change.
***This role has the option to work remotely/be home based but needs to be in the Greater NYC market and/or has the option to work in the Manhattan office.***
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Grassroots Strategy, Volunteer Attraction and Engagement, and Organizing: (50%)
Build and execute a state diversity and inclusion plan that enhances the reach and overall grassroots strength of the organization. Find and utilize diverse cancer patients, caregivers, and other stakeholder stories that help drive policies to address disparities and other health equity concerns.
Work closely with the NY staff team to enhance and expand partnerships with various alliance organizations, including those with a focus on racial and ethnically diverse and LGBTQ+ members for grassroots development and training opportunities.
